Keith, you and I, both fell for it. The DX5 and the ‘lesser’ radios are marketed as ideal or suitable for beginners but they aren’t. Unfortunately, we didn’t seek or find advice on this subject but I hope others read this. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to have a nice radio that can last a few years.

Great article. You are right about the selection of radios. I started off on a dx5e, its not a bad radio for beginning but it did not feature expo adustment. So I felt like it was kind of a waste after my 1st experience with a radio that does feature expo. If I known better I woulda got the dx6i for starting off. Big noticable difference even for indoor flying.

Nope. Just the Orange RX. It has been working fine at short distances (around the park… maybe 1000 feet max or so). Have not tried those receivers at long range or high altitudes yet. I think I might soon but I’m afraid I’d rather use them with the satellite receiver.

Are you using the OrangeRX diversity receiver with your main receiver? I picked up some dead zones just using the stand alone RX..

Hi, George. If you’re flying a nitro-powered model, you should stay away from this park and any place where there is a lot of vehicular and foot traffic.

Try Ives Estates Park instead. Check out this list of places to fly around south Florida. A lot of guys fly nitro at Ives.

Fred, thanks a ton for the praise! I try to help whenever I can. However, I don’t think I will censor any media I release on my blog. Whether it’s offensive to some or not, it’s how I choose to express myself and how I feel I can reach a wider audience/whatever my goal is. If any minors visit my website and/or watch my videos, I’m sure they won’t feel offended by my “bad” language or what I have to say. If they or any other reader feels offended or unhappy with what I have to say, they have the right to go somewhere else for their RC media and resources. Happy flying, man.

I like the info, the how-to’s, etc. You may want to edit out the expletives from your video(s). Not everyone who comes to your site is an adult.
